Turkey Requires That Households Generate Solar Energy

Turkey is drafting legislation to require owners of homes and businesses that install solar energy panels or batteries to cover 10 percent their consumption and meet the standards of the European Union, Milliyet said today.

Turkey could produce 20 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, Soner Aksoy, chairman of the Parliament’s Committee for Industry, Commerce, Energy and Technology, said. Aksoy is preparing the law on renewable energy for power generation, solar, wind, geothermal and biogas, he said.

The law requires that homes, apartment buildings and offices use solar panels to heat water and batteries for photovoltaic energy production, said Aksoy. It will also also include price incentives for solar power generation for five years.

Vakiflar Turkiye Bankasi TAO, a state bank and the Ministry of Energy are discussing long-term loans to help owners and managers of buildings to safeguard homes from the cold and save up to 40 percent of energy waste in homes, Milliyet said, referring to Aksoy.
